Focused Leadership and Team Building Development

Rationale

Every organization needs effective leadership from its middle and senior management. Leadership skills go beyond technical expertise in finance, marketing and product development, or even first response. Given the complexity and ever changing work environment, executives and leaders need to acknowledge the interdependence of team members. Given the right tools, they can better help their work teams become more effective, make better and more timely decisions, and maneuver through changes with better results.

Leaders are not born. They can be trained, mentored and coached to become the men and women needed by today’s organizations.

Executive and Leadership Development Series

Mr. Giles facilitates a series of leadership development seminars held telephonically or face to face. The following series can be used either individually or with each other to create a training regimen suitable to meet the identified needs of each organization.

The Four Cornerstones of Leadership
Using Leadership Excellence by Pat Williams (2012), Cornerstones covers 4 key components of leadership. It uses the facilitated peer learning group format to round out the learning and discussion and focus on immediate needs of leadership development for each attendee. This series is intended for emerging leaders within an organization. Time frame is 5 to 9 weeks, every other week. One private coaching session is offered to participants. Ancillary material provided by download. Private discussion forum is also available to continue the discussion and learning process.

More Cornerstones of Leadership
A continuation of the Four Cornerstones of Leadership as requested. Material also includes original material focusing on “management by inquiry.”

Developing Effective Work Teams
This series uses material by Patrick Lencioni, well known author and work team guru, entitled Overcoming the Five Dysfunctions of a Team, (2005). Material identifies the five key requirements of an effective working team and how leaders can create the environment for these requirements to flourish. This unit also uses the facilitated peer learning group format to round out the learning and discussion and focus on immediate needs of leadership development for each attendee. A private coaching sessions is offered to any participant. Intended for seasoned leaders and key personnel within an organization. Time frame is up to 10 weeks, meeting weekly. Ancillary material provided by download. Private discussion forum is also available to continue the discussion and learning process. Participants will have an opportunity to engage in at least one private coaching session as well during or following the group program.

Another Meeting? Please Shoot Me Now
This series uses material written by Dick and Emily Axelrod, Let’s Stop Meeting Like This, (2014). This material outlines a flexible and adaptable system that can be used to run truly productive meetings in all kinds of organizations. Principles that made video games so engaging have been used to make this one of the best books of its kind. People create concrete plans, accomplish tasks, build connections, and move projects forward. It uses the facilitated peer learning group format to round out the learning and discussion and focus on immediate needs of each participant. This series is intended for anyone responsible for running meetings and getting the most from the people they work with. The time frame is up to 8 weeks, meeting every week. Ancillary material provided by download. Private discussion forum is also available to continue the discussion and learning process. Evaluation and evaluation of the team meeting both before and after the series may be helpful to team leaders.

Creating Balance In A Hyper-Drive World
This series uses material written by Richard A. Swenson, MD entitled In Search of Balance, (2010). This is a seven week unit using a telephonic series facilitated by Mr. Giles. This material is suitable for all “unbalanced” executives and managers who live is a “post-balanced world.” It uses the facilitated peer learning group format to round out the learning and discussion. Ancillary material provided by download. A private discussion forum is also available to continue the discussion and learning process. Limit of 10 participates per session.

Why These Series Are Different

The format of this series is based upon the concept of facilitated peer learning groups. Each course will be limited in number of participants and will use cutting edge material by noted authors and practitioners in leadership and executive development. Groups will be facilitated to cover specific learning material, and will experience professional coaching techniques to develop learning in areas of specific need of each participant. Collateral material will be introduced as needed. Each participant will have one private coaching session during each series.

Target Audience

These leadership series are targeted to a broad audience of managers and executives serving in a wide range of industries. Each series may be chosen to stand alone, or can be used in any combination to meet the specific needs of the organization. Both emerging and experienced organizational leaders can benefit from attendance.

Why Professional Coaching In a Group Setting Is Such a Powerful Learning Tool

Group facilitation in this type of environment enables participants to work together in applying material to their own situations. Often called “just in time learning,” participants are able to take time to apply material to meet immediate needs. Where there is power in number, there can be genius in focused groups that help one another solve challenging problems. As group facilitator, Mr. Giles manages the discussion, keeps it focused, and encourages all attendees to participate fully. Guidelines keep the group moving in the intended direction. Participants will be encouraged and supported in setting goals and creating action plans to apply material in their work place in order to affect creative change. Peer group learning is a powerful tool in adult education and is particularly suitable in executive and leadership development. Mr. Giles uses professional coaching tools such as power questions, establishing priorities, and support for each participant to focus on one or two particular problem areas that can be tackled by each participant. Attendees will gain valuable experience in creating awareness of their work situations, work on specific problem solving, team building, and develop stronger leadership skills.
